Soumak rugs are flat-woven textiles that are characterized by their absent pile and unique geometric designs. The Soumak (also Sumac, Sumak and Sumakh) rugs are also considered as a form hand-stitched embroidery and they go back as 700 B.C. Soumak rugs typically exhibit higher intricacy and detail than other forms of flatweave floor coverings such as kilims and often incorporate finer wool or silk yarns in the weave for finer finish.
